The best place for a video doorbell is at natural eye level, near the main door handle, where people actually stand when they press the bell. Too high and you’ll only see the top of their head; too low and you mainly get chest shots or just a chin.
Ideally, mount it slightly off to the side of the door (usually on the same side as the handle), at about 48–54 inches from the floor. Make sure the camera has a clear view of the approach area, not blocked by a wall corner, pillar or big plant. If your door has a grill or screen, test whether the view is obstructed when it’s closed.
Consider sunlight and rain too. Direct harsh light can wash out faces on video; constant rain hitting the lens is also annoying. If possible, place it under a small shade or porch roof. Before finalising, stand where visitors usually stand and imagine what you would want to see on your phone screen – that’s your ideal angle.
