In real life, medium, slightly patterned tones hide dust better than extreme light or deep dark floors. Very dark floors, like espresso or black, show every bit of dust, pet hair and footprint. Pure white or very light floors show spills, scuffs and darker dirt quickly.
Something in the middle – warm greys, soft browns, or natural wood-like shades with a bit of variation – is most forgiving. The small colour movement across the surface makes minor dust and everyday marks less obvious.
Of course, this doesn’t mean you never clean. It just means the floor doesn’t look dirty within an hour of mopping. If you hate seeing every little speck, avoid ultra-dark and ultra-light extremes and pick a medium shade that suits your decor and sanity level.
