The ideal time is when weather is dry, mild and stable – not extremely hot, not too cold, and definitely not rainy. In many places, that means late spring or early autumn. Paint needs time to dry and cure properly. High humidity, frequent showers or freezing temperatures interfere with that process.
Extreme heat can also be problematic, as paint may dry too quickly on the surface and not bond well underneath. Painters will often avoid working on walls directly hit by strong midday sun, moving around the building as the light changes.
If your climate has a formal “dry season,” scheduling exterior painting then is usually wise. A good local painter will also tell you the best window for your area. The main idea: pick a period when you can expect several consecutive dry days with comfortable temperatures, and your exterior paint job will thank you.
