The easiest starting point is to choose one anchor piece or element and build around it. That anchor might be a sofa, a rug, a bed, or even a big piece of art you love. It’s much simpler to pick wall colors, cushions and smaller items to match a real object than to paint blindly and then struggle to find furniture that fits.
For example, if you find a rug that instantly feels right for the room, let its colors and style guide your palette. Or if you already have a bed with a certain headboard, use that as your first decision. Once the anchor is set, decide on layout – where big pieces will sit. After that, layer in lighting, side tables, storage and decor.
Trying to design everything in your head at once is overwhelming. Picking one strong starting point gives you a direction, and every other choice becomes a smaller, easier step rather than a giant, scary jump.
