How often should you service your home’s electrical system?

For most homes, getting the electrical system checked every 5–7 years is a sensible gap, if you’re not facing any obvious issues. But if you live in an older house, or you’ve added a lot of high-load appliances over time (ACs, heaters, big fridges), it’s smart to ask an electrician to inspect things more often – maybe every 3–4 years.

You don’t need a full rewiring every time. A basic safety check is enough: condition of the main panel, loose connections, overloaded circuits, burnt marks, quality of earthing, and whether wires are old or brittle. If you notice frequent tripping, random shocks from appliances, flickering lights, or warm switchboards, don’t wait for the calendar – call someone soon.

Think of it like a health check-up. Nothing may be “wrong” right now, but catching a weak point early can prevent bigger, more dangerous problems later, especially fire risk from overheated wires and loose joints.
